The infectious slab of hip pop created by Gideon Conn has been one of the biggest word of mouth stories in years.
His summery sound has seen him rise purely on the power of his infectious vibes causing hordes to join the rapidly growing army of fans. Gideon is a creative obsessive; his sculptures, drawings, paintings, songwriting and performances fill his days. An eccentric approaching genius, his brand of folkish hip-hop emulates everything from Outkast to Beck, yet is a unique fusion of song-rapped lyrics that tell surprisingly personal tales.
Mancunian Gideon’s personal approach, is what has made sure audiences remember his DIY performances, supported by his multi-instrumentalist band. Always bespectacled and hatted up, like a B-Boy Woody Allen, the EP introduces the listener to Gideon’s multiple styles. From the sunny, catchy flow of “I Want You Around” to the gentle, poignant beauty of “Inside” to the beat-heavy conscious lyrics of “Wildfire”, Conn uses sounds from his brass section (trombone and cornet) to scratch DJ to acoustic guitar, to accompany his deliciously honest lyrical flow; both witty, poignant and charming. October 6th 2008 will see the release of his much anticipated EP “I Want You Around” with the title track being playlisted on both BBC 6music and XFM. 2008 saw Gideon support established acts such as The Ting Tings, Dan Le Sac and Jason Mraz with festival appearances at Electric Picnic and Bestival still to come.
